Albert Wallace Hamar was born in 1903 to Charles Wallace and Iva Susanna (Polen) Hamar in Sparks, Cherry County, Nebraska. He was the fifth of fourteen children.

He married Alice Valentine Bunn (Coleman) on December 23, 1924, in Winner, Tripp, North Dakota. He raised Alice’s three children from as previous marriage as his own: Marion, Earl, and Lawrence. Together, they had five additional children: Leo, Ray, Arlie, Orvella, and Kenneth.

They lived in Johnstown, Nebraska; Rapid City, South Dakota; Hamilton, Montana; Chelan and Longview, Washington. After moving to Longview, Albert worked for the Weyerhaeuser Sawmill until retirement.

Albert passed away on May 4, 1974, due to cancer and the effects of a stroke. He is buried in the mausoleum at Longview Memorial Park Cemetery.
