Charles Points Hamar was born on May 16, 1835, in Munseytown, Delaware, Indiana, to David and Juliet (Points) Hamar. He was the sixth of seven children.
He married Sarah Emily Williams on June 6, 1858, in Delaware County, Indiana. They had seven children: Julia, David, William, Charles Francis, Miley, Charles Wallace, and Florence.
In the fall of 1878, Charles moved his family to Cherry County, Nebraska in 1883 in a covered wagon pulled by mules. They built a log cabin in 1884, and in 1982, the cabin was still standing. Charles was a farmer according to the US Census records.
On February 22, 1911, Charles died at the home of his daughter Florence in Valentine, Cherry, Nebraska. He was laid to rest in the Mt. Hope Cemetery in Valentine.
