Ellen Olson was born May 29, 1882 in Henning, Otter Tail, Minnesota. Comparing her birth-date and census dates as well as her parents’ immigration records, I believe Ellen may have been born in 1883. Her parents were Ole and Guri (Jacobsdatter) Hillestad.
Ellen married Peder Halvorson Holland on July 6, 1898 in Toronto, Duell, South Dakota. On the 1895 Minnesota Territorial and State Census, it lists the Olson and Holland families as neighbors in Hendricks, Lincoln, Minnesota. Ellen was 15 and Peder was 28 at the time of their marriage. They had seven children: Henry, Oscar, Julia, Gunda, Olga, Perry and Esther.
Ellen died in August 1974 in Fosston, Polk, Minnesota. Her obituary was published in the September 19th edition of the Hendricks Pioneer. She is buried with Peder in the Riverside Cemetery in Hillsboro, Traill, North Dakota.
