Ole Mikkelson Skolrud was born August 29, 1861 in Vang, Hedmark, Norway. He was christened on September 29th. He came to America with his parents when he was five years old.
Ole married Emma Haarstad on April 1, 1886 in Otter Tail County, Minnesota. Nin children were born to them. Their first two children died and are buried in the Friborg Cemetery. Their other children were Minnie, Sophie, Severin, Arthur, Hilda, Herman, and Gilma.
Ole purchased a homestead in Oscar Township of Otter Tail County. It was in section 10 and covered 160 acres. I have included a copy of the Indexed County Land Ownership Map (ancestry.com) that shows where the homestead was. His occupation is listed as farmer on all of the census records.
Ole died September 12, 1946. His story is told in his obituary that I found in Grandma Julia’s scrapbook. According to the obituary, he is buried in the Friborg Cemetery with Emma and their two infant children. Findagrave.com volunteers have been unable to locate his grave marker.
Ole and Emma’s first child, Sofie, was born January 16, 1887 and she died at age two on September 30, 1889. Their second child was born and died on May 27, 1888. The photos of their gravemarkers in Friborg Cemetery were provided by a findagrave.com volunteer.
